The European Green Deal is the EU's long-term growth strategy to make Europe climate-neutral by 2050 and put renewable energy at the heart of the energy system. There is increasing demand for clean energy, in the context of the climate crisis and the Russian war in Ukraine, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and transition to a low-carbon economy and away from Russian oil. 

Initially, the EU set its target for renewable energy production to be above 40% by 2030. Then, in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the EU increased its goal to 45%, to further reduce dependency on fossil fuels. Currently, renewables account for ~20% of energy production in the EU. 

The falling costs of renewable energy technologies, such as solar panels, make it an increasingly affordable electricity source for local utilities to draw from. In addition, there is strong government support for developing renewable energy through financial incentives and regulatory frameworks. All these factors make now the perfect time to invest in renewable energy in Eastern Europe.
